Year 6 English 'Private Peaceful'

This week we started looking at another Michael Morpurgo book set in WWI entitled Private Peaceful. First we made predictions about the book by taking a look at the blurb on the back and the images that were on the front cover. In the first chapter, Tommo Peaceful, an 18-year-old soldier at war, is trying to remember all of his childhood memories in one night. He thinks about his first day of school and how he was scared of Mr. Munnings. He remembers his Dad's funeral, as he believes that if he had run away from a falling tree his father would still be alive. We then sequenced the story in chronological order as well as the story order. On Wednesday we then debated whether or not it really was Tommo's fault that his father had died. We created a conscience alley with one side being the voice of blame and the other the voice of innocence.
