Victorian Day in Year 5

This week, Year 5 travelled back in time to experience some activities that would have been common in the Victorian era.

Our day began with handwriting which some of the children found incredibly hard! They enjoyed using the chalk but admitted they much prefer a pen! We then went to the hall to express ourselves through drama. We all gave ourselves a Victorian name and character. We had the pleasure of meeting Albert the chimney sweep, Gwendoline the maid and even Queen Victoria herself! The children were able to use lots of knowledge from our History lessons to improvise and really get into character.

After lunch, the children made some jam tarts, a traditional Victorian delicacy. I must say, they were very tasty!

The children enjoyed some time on the playground and used chalk to make hopscotch games, again a traditional past time for children of that era.

Overall, it really was a great way to end our Victorian topic. The children looked absolutely fabulous, so a huge thank you for your support as always.
