Shrove Tuesday Fun in Ducklings Class! 🥞

Today, we had a fantastic time celebrating Shrove Tuesday! In the morning, we visited St Eanswythe’s Church, where Father Chris taught us about the meaning behind this special day. Shrove Tuesday is the day before Lent begins and traditionally, Christians would use up rich ingredients like eggs, milk and sugar before the fasting period started – which is why pancakes became a big part of the tradition!

Father Chris also told us about Mardi Gras, which is celebrated around the world on Shrove Tuesday. In some countries, people have big parades, wear colourful costumes and enjoy music and dancing to mark the day in a joyful way.

Back in class, after our Phonics lesson, we got creative with some pancake face decorating! Using our cutting and sticking skills, we designed funny and happy pancake faces on paper, helping to develop our fine motor skills.

Then came the best part – our pancake feast at snack time! 🥞 The children had lots of tasty toppings and delicious fruit to choose from. Chocolate spread was a firm favourite and there were plenty of chocolatey grins around the table! Some children were brave enough to try lemon slices, which caused some very funny tangy faces.
