Today marked the third day for our Ducklings, and what a special day it was! After settling in with a few little tasks in the classroom, the children were rewarded with a wonderful surprise—our Year 5 buddies joined us for a morning of fun both inside and outside the classroom.
The atmosphere was filled with joy as all the children played beautifully together. From football to storytime, marble runs to block towers and chalk drawings to adventures on the climbing frame, everyone had a chance to bond with their new friends. The sandpit was especially popular, it was heartwarming to see how quickly the Year 5 children took to their new roles, helping and caring for their younger buddies.
This pairing of new starters with Year 5 children is a long-standing tradition at our school, and it's one that we are incredibly proud of. The buddies remain close throughout Reception and continue their friendship in Year 1, with their Year 6 buddy, as they take part in shared trips and regular buddy reading sessions. It's always exciting for the children to spot their buddy around school, whether it’s at playtime or lunch. For many, becoming a buddy is a rite of passage, and something they look forward to as they grow older.
These friendships often last throughout their time here, and some are lucky enough to continue into secondary school. It was truly heartwarming to witness the beginning of these special relationships today and we can't wait to see how they flourish in the months ahead.
