Last week, Year 5 had a whole day of design technology and made a pop up book. The children understood that mechanisms can be used to change one kind of motion onto another and were able to describe and demonstrate the use of sliders, pivots and folds to create paper based mechanisms.
The children followed the design brief of Jack and Jill (the nursery rhyme) and were able to make mechanisms to show Jack and Jill moving up the hill, the pail of water moving and Jack popping up from the bottom of the hill. We discussed the importance of making the book more aesthetically pleasing by designing a front cover and adding colour.
The children followed the instructions carefully and the finished books were fantastic. Well done Year 5!
