This week, Ducklings class have been diving into the classic story We're Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen. The children have loved exploring the story through a variety of engaging activities.
During our COOL (Choose Our Own Learning) time today, we focused on developing our scissor skills with some fun cutting activities. The children also worked with Miss Godden to create salt dough and used it to mould characters from the story – their creativity truly shone through!
A real highlight was when some of the children joined Mrs Giles to experience the “thick oozy mud” from the story. They were thrilled to “squelch and squerch” in the mud, exploring how it felt between their toes. This sensory play prompted some wonderful language development, as the children described the feel of the dough and mud and explained how they shaped their story characters.
We were particularly proud of the perseverance the children showed when getting their shoes and socks on and off, as well as cleaning their own feet. These moments encourage independence, self-care skills and motor development. The children tackled these tasks with determination and growing confidence.
It’s been a fantastic day of imaginative play and hands-on learning and we’re excited to continue our Bear Hunt adventures!
