Our first school trip of the year was an absolute blast! We visited the wonderful Wildwood Trust in Canterbury, and it was an exciting day full of learning, adventure and fun.
We kicked off the day with a hibernation workshop which linked in with our literacy learning of Jerry the Dormouse from Term 3. We learned all about how different animals prepare for the long sleep through winter. Some animals, like hedgehogs and bears, hibernate to stay warm and safe, while others, like squirrels, gather food to survive the cold months. The workshop was super interactive! We even got to pretend to be hedgehogs getting ready for a long winter nap. It was a great way to learn about how animals adapt to the changing seasons.
After all that learning, it was time for lunch outside. It was so much fun eating with our friends, surrounded by trees and nature. We could hear birds singing and see squirrels darting around, just like the animals we had been talking about.
Next, we went on a walk around Wildwood to see the animals up close. We saw so many different creatures – from little mice to majestic deer and bisons. The most amazing part was when we got to meet Boki the Bear. Boki is a very special bear because he was the first bear ever to have brain surgery! It was incredible to learn about his story and see him in person, walking above his enclosure and enjoying his home at Wildwood, some of you may have seen his story on the news recently.
After that, we headed over to the play park. It was the perfect way to end our trip. We raced on the slides, swung as high as we could and played all sorts of games with our classmates. There were so many smiles and laughter – it was the best way to finish a day full of learning and exploring.
